Geftinat 250mg Tablet (Gefitinib)
Geftinat 250mg Tablet is used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. It is used in patients in which it has spread to other parts of the body, who have abnormal epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) genes, and who have not had previous treatment for cancer.
Description
Geftinat (Gefitinib) 250 mg
Geftinat is an anticancer medicine containing the active ingredient Gefitinib, a targeted therapy belonging to the class of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). It is primarily used for the treatment of certain types of advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in patients whose tumors have specific EGFR gene mutations.
How Geftinat Works
Gefitinib blocks the activity of the EGFR protein, which plays a key role in the growth and spread of cancer cells. By inhibiting EGFR signaling, Geftinat helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and may reduce tumor progression.
Indications
Geftinat is indicated for:
- Advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations.
- Patients who are suitable for EGFR-targeted therapy based on molecular testing.
Dosage and Administration
- The usual recommended dose is 250 mg once daily, taken orally with or without food.
- The tablet should be taken at the same time each day as directed by the treating oncologist.
- Treatment continues until disease progression or unacceptable side effects occur.
Common Side Effects
Patients may experience:
- Diarrhea
- Skin rash or acne-like eruptions
- Dry skin
- Nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Mouth sores
- Fatigue and weakness
Serious but less common adverse effects include liver problems and interstitial lung disease (lung inflammation), which require immediate medical attention.
Precautions
- Regular monitoring of liver function and overall health is recommended.
- Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, as drug interactions may occur.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using Gefitinib unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional.
Storage
Store Geftinat tablets at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
Disclaimer
Geftinat is a prescription-only anticancer medication and should be used strictly under the supervision of a qualified oncologist. Treatment decisions should be based on appropriate diagnostic testing and individual patient factors.
