Description
Erlonat contains erlotinib, a targeted anti-cancer medicine used primarily for the treatment of advanced or metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer. It works by blocking the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), a protein that promotes the growth and spread of cancer cells.
Indications
- Advanced or metastatic EGFR-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
- Advanced pancreatic cancer, often in combination with chemotherapy (such as gemcitabine)
Mechanism of Action
Erlotinib inhibits EGFR tyrosine kinase activity, preventing cancer cells from receiving signals needed for growth and division. This helps slow or stop tumor progression.
Dosage and Administration
- Take exactly as prescribed by an oncologist.
- Usually administered once daily.
- Should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.
