Helping Patients Manage Allergic and Inflammatory Conditions
XOLAIR® (omalizumab) is a prescription biologic medicine designed to target immunoglobulin E (IgE), a key driver of allergic responses. By reducing the activity of IgE, XOLAIR helps address the underlying cause of certain allergic and inflammatory conditions, supporting better disease control and improved quality of life.
What Is XOLAIR?
XOLAIR is a monoclonal antibody administered by subcutaneous injection. It works by binding to IgE antibodies in the body, helping reduce allergic inflammation and the symptoms associated with specific IgE-mediated conditions.
Conditions XOLAIR May Help Treat
Depending on local regulatory approvals, XOLAIR may be prescribed for:
Allergic Asthma
For eligible patients with moderate to severe persistent allergic asthma whose symptoms remain uncontrolled despite standard therapy, XOLAIR can help improve asthma control and reduce exacerbations.
Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (Chronic Hives)
For patients whose chronic hives are not adequately controlled with antihistamines, XOLAIR may help reduce itching, swelling, and the impact of symptoms on daily life.
Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps
XOLAIR may be used as an add-on treatment for eligible adults with nasal polyps who have not achieved adequate control with nasal corticosteroids.
Food Allergy
In certain countries, XOLAIR is approved to help reduce allergic reactions that may occur following accidental exposure to specific food allergens. Patients should continue to avoid foods to which they are allergic.
How XOLAIR Works
Allergic reactions often begin when IgE antibodies recognize an allergen and trigger the release of inflammatory substances. XOLAIR targets and binds to IgE, helping interrupt this process before symptoms develop. By reducing free IgE levels, XOLAIR helps decrease allergic inflammation and improve disease management.
Treatment and Administration
XOLAIR is administered as an injection under the skin. Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate dose and treatment schedule based on your condition and individual clinical factors. In some regions and for certain patients, self-administration may be an available option after appropriate training.
Patient Support
Managing a chronic allergic condition can be challenging. Speak with your healthcare provider about treatment options, support programs, and educational resources that may help you better understand your condition and treatment journey.
Important Safety Information
XOLAIR can cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which may occur after any dose, even after long-term treatment. Patients should be monitored according to healthcare provider recommendations. XOLAIR is not intended for emergency treatment of allergic reactions or acute asthma symptoms. Discuss potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before starting treatment.
Talk to Your Healthcare Provider
If you are living with allergic asthma, chronic hives, nasal polyps, or food allergies, ask your healthcare provider whether XOLAIR may be an appropriate treatment option for you.
